Lorraine Kope, 90, of Cicero, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon at Elderwood of Liverpool. Born and raised in Olyphant, PA, daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Kowtko Smakula, Lorraine graduated from Olyphant High School and Scranton Business School. Following graduation, Lorraine worked for Dr. Alexander Shellman, an orthopedic surgeon in Olyphant. In 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, the late Peter W. Kope and a few years later moved to Syracuse, NY to start a homebuilding business with her husband and to cook delicious Polish meals for the family she was raising. Through the years, Lorraine enjoyed many activities with her family including boating, camping and long Sunday car trips. In their later years, she and her husband enjoyed organizing and working with his Navy reunion group and spending Winters in Myrtle Beach.
In addition to her loving husband and her parents, Lorraine was predeceased by her sister, Phyllis Andrejko of North Syracuse. Lorraine is survived by a son, Peter (Kathleen) of Cicero; daughter, Lynn (Robert) Hamister of North Syracuse; granddaughter, Holly (Michael) Simons and great grandson, Luke Simons of Buffalo and four nieces and their families. Our family wishes to thank the staff at Elderwood for the care and compassion given to Lorraine during her stay.
Funeral services are Thursday at 9am in Sears Middleton Jones Funeral Home and 10am in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Syracuse. Burial will follow in North Syracuse Cemetery.
